The focus of today’s message is on common carriers. Specifically, we’ll discuss what they are, the standard of care they’re held to, and our role at Batta Fulkerson.
Let’s first define what a common carrier is. Common carriers are services that provide transportation to the general public, like taxis, buses, and even planes. These common carriers are held to certain standard of care that, if not followed, can easily lead to injury.
As individuals, we all have a duty to exercise reasonable care and not bring harm to others in our everyday lives. That duty is elevated with common carriers because we’re agreeing to relinquish control and place our lives in the hands of the operator of that carrier.
Whether they’re piloting the plane you’re on or driving the car you’re in, it’s their duty to operate with the highest standard of care, so they don’t cause harm or injury to the people in their charge.
We at Batta Fulkerson take transportation safety very seriously, and we work closely and tirelessly with clients who have been injured in common carrier situations.
Though we hope you never find yourself in this situation, if you’re the injured party in an accident involving a plane, train, taxi, Uber, or Lyft, please contact us. We’d be happy to help you!
